Authority:
This Code receives its authority under Article V, Section 4 of the Associated Students Constitution.

Purpose:
The purpose of this Code is to outline and define the duties and responsibilities of the Vice President.

STANDARDS OF IMPLEMENTATION:
This Code shall be effective when approved by a majority of the total voting membership of the Associated Students Senate.

AMENDMENTS:
This Code shall be amended when approved by a majority of the total voting membership of the Associated Students Senate.

APPOINTMENT, TENURE AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • The Vice President shall be elected, from the same ticket as the President, in compliance with the Code on Elections and the A.S Constitution.
  • Should the position be vacated during the term, the President shall post an announcement of the vacancy for two (2) weeks as stated in the A.S. Constitution (Article VI, Section 2). Applicants shall be interviewed and from the eligible candidates, the President shall select an appointee. The appointee must be approved by a majority of the total voting membership of Senate.
  • The term of office for the Vice President shall be from the first day following the end of the Spring semester up to, and including, the last day of the Spring semester, concurrent with the Associated Students President’s term of office. Should the office be vacated during the term, the new appointee’s tenure of office shall end with the term of the A.S. President.
  • The Vice President shall be responsible for the execution of all duties assigned by the Associated Students President.

DUTIES

  • The Vice President shall be a voting member at all Senate meetings.
  • The Vice President shall preside over the Senate meetings in the absence of the President.
  • The Vice President shall serve as a member of the AS President’s Cabinet.
  • The Vice President shall chair the Council of Chairs, pursuant to the Code on the Council of Chairs.
  • The Vice President shall collect reports from Senate members assigned to University Committees. Reports shall be shared during the Vice President's report to Senate.
  • The Vice President shall have the authority to jointly oversee the duties of the Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant.
  • The Vice President or their designee shall be the Senate representative to the Annual End of Year Celebration Program Group.
  • The Vice President shall be a member of the A.S. Personnel Board.
  • The Vice President shall lead any special projects as deemed by the President.
  • The Vice President shall lead and coordinate programming for AS Welcome Week and Commuter Appreciation Day.
  • The Vice President shall work collaboratively with the Attorney General to oversee Senate attendance and coordinate the notification process as stated in the Senate Standing Rules.
  • The Vice President shall coordinate and lead semesterly check-ins with Senators.
  • The Vice President may represent CSUN at California State Student Association (CSSA) monthly plenaries and special meetings as needed.
  • The Vice President shall attend Standing Committee meetings based on availability.

Regulations:
The Vice President shall, in execution of their responsibilities, uphold the policies of:

  • The United States Constitution
  • The State of California
  • California State University, Northridge
  • Associated Students, Inc.

PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY:
All meetings called by the Vice President shall be conducted according to parliamentary law as set forth in Robert’s Rules or Order, Newly Revised.

ENABLING CAUSE:
This Code shall supersede all Codes written before May 8, 2023.
