1. WHEREAS: The Associated Students, Inc. (AS) is the official voice of over 39,000 students at California State University Northridge; AND

2. WHEREAS: AS is the primary advocate for students at CSUN and provides excellent, meaningful programs and services designed to create and enhance a spirited, learning focused campus environment; AND

4. WHEREAS: Acknowledging the fact that the Legislature and Governor Brown set an ambitious goal of 75 percent recycling, composting or source reduction of solid waste by 2020 calling for the state and the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) to take a statewide approach to decreasing California’s reliance on landfills.1; AND

5. WHEREAS: We also recognize that in 2014, “The California State University Sustainability Policy established the following goals regarding waste for all CSU campuses: Reduce solid waste disposal rate by 50% of 2006 levels by 2016, Reduce solid waste disposal rate by 80% of 2006 levels by 2020, Move to Zero Waste;2” AND

6. WHEREAS: China’s National Sword Policy has made paper and cardboard recycling more difficult. CSUN’s vendors have been stockpiling recycled materials in warehouses since October 2018 because recyclers aren’t able to sell it to manufacturers, or they’re forced to sell it at a loss. The best options are to reduce and reuse; AND THEREFORE LET IT BE
