Title: AS Emergency Preparedness Plan


1. WHEREAS: The Associated Students, Inc. (AS) is the official voice of over 38,000 students at California State University Northridge; AND

2. WHEREAS: AS is the primary advocate for students at CSUN and provides excellent, meaningful programs and services designed to create and enhance a spirited, learning focused campus environment; AND

3. WHEREAS: AS is always trying to get more students involved and increase student participation within the many programs and services we offer; AND

4. WHEREAS: Departments are expected to develop their own Emergency Action Plan because they best understand the nature of their work, potential work place hazards, the layout of their worksites, and special needs specific to their Department, AND

5. WHEREAS: The AS Emergency Action Plan does not have a statement in regards to employees, staff, and volunteers having the personal choice whether or not to come to campus in the event of a threat or potential threat due to fear of their own wellbeing; THEREFORE LET IT BE

1. RESOLVED: That AS lead by example and a statement that reads “AS student employees, staff, and volunteers are not required to fulfill any AS duties if the person has a fear or concern for their own safety performing such duties at any location” be added into the AS Emergency Preparedness Plan; AND LET IT BE FURTHER

2. RESOLVED: If making the choice to not come to campus due to fear of danger or harm, the absence will be considered as an excused absence; AND LET IT BE FURTHER

3. RESOLVED: That copies of this resolution be distributed widely, including but not limited to the following:

  • David Crandall, A.S. Executive Director
  • Leanne, Vincent, Student Leadership and Productions Manager
  • Daniela Cross, Executive Director of Risk Management
  • All A.S. Department Heads
  • CSUN Today
  • The Daily Sundial
