1. WHEREAS: The Associated Students, Inc. (AS) is the official voice of over 38,000 students at California State University Northridge; AND
2. WHEREAS: AS is the primary advocate for students at CSUN and provides excellent, meaningful programs and services designed to create and enhance a spirited, learning focused campus environment; AND
3. WHEREAS: Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) is a country of 55 million people, mostly Buddhist with a Rohingya Muslim ethnic minority of approximately 1.3 million (The World Factbook, CIA); AND
4. WHEREAS: The current government in Myanmar deprives Rohingya people from their rights, by denying them citizenship, excluding them from census, and refusing to recognize them as people; AND
5. WHEREAS: Nearly 700,000 Rohingya people have fled Myanmar to Bangladesh since August 2017, driven by escalating violence and human rights abuses; entire villages were burned to the ground, families were separated and killed, women were raped (United Nations Human Rights); AND
6. WHEREAS: The Joint Response Plan, that was launched in Geneva and it requests US$951 million to provide life-saving assistance to 1.3 million people, including Rohingya refugees and local host communities (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs); THEREFORE LET IT BE
