1. WHEREAS: The Associated Students, Inc. (AS) is the official voice of over 38,000 students at California State University Northridge; AND
2. WHEREAS: AS is the primary advocate for students at CSUN and provides excellent, meaningful programs and services designed to create and enhance a spirited, learning focused campus environment; AND
3. WHEREAS: A number of past, present, and future CSUN students have, continue to, and will serve their country in the active military, naval, or air service; AND
4. WHEREAS: Those who have served, and whom were discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable; AND
5. WHEREAS: Recognized as a Veteran; AND
6. WHEREAS: There is no symbol of acknowledgement, neither recognition of those who have, continue to, and will serve, on the CSUN campus; AND
7. WHEREAS: The CSUN Student Veteran Organization (SVO) is in conversations for establishing a Veterans Memorial since 2015; THEREFORE LET IT BE
1. RESOLVED: That AS supports the recommendation from the CSUN Student Veteran Organization (SVO) to establish and create a memorial in honor of CSUN Veterans; AND LET IT BE FURTHER
2. RESOLVED: That the memorial be a pillar with six sides, one for each branch. With a dedication at its base or center; AND LET IT BE FURTHER
3. RESOLVED: To help with costs, the CSUN Student Veteran Organization (SVO) envisioned having bricks around the memorial that people could purchase/ donate to; similar to the look around the Matador Statue; AND LET IT BE FURTHER
4. RESOLVED: The memorial shall read, “Dedicated in honor of all Matadors who have served and sacrificed to protect the freedom of our great country with courage, dignity, and patriotism. We thank you for your service and continued commitment to this campus community.” Unless, edited throughout the process to read anew; AND LET IT BE FURTHER
5. RESOLVED: That a special plaque or dedication be added to the memorial in recognition to the CSUN Student Veteran Organization (SVO) for their persistent efforts and continued progress; AND LET IT BE FURTHER
6. RESOLVED: That the special plaque or dedication read, “This memorial was dedicated by the CSUN Student Veteran Organization (SVO).” Unless, edited throughout the process to read anew; AND LET IT BE FINALLY
7. RESOLVED: That copies of this resolution be distributed widely, including but not limited to the following:
