Title: Endorse Proposition 12: Expand Live Space for Livestock

1. WHEREAS: The Associated Students, Inc. (AS) is the official voice of over 38,000 students at California State University Northridge; AND

2. WHEREAS: AS is the primary advocate for students at CSUN and provides excellent, meaningful programs and services designed to create and enhance a spirited, learning focused campus environment; AND

3. WHEREAS: AS is always trying to get more students involved and increase student participation within the many programs and services we offer; AND

4. WHEREAS: Proposition 12 if passed will guarantee and enforce larger living space for animals producing meat and eggs for consumption; AND

5. WHEREAS: According to UNH Cooperative Extension of Food and Consumption, the typical space for chickens is 3.4 sq. ft. As for cows, 1.8 acres of grazing room should be provided to each, however livestock are often stuffed in wired cages, windowless sheds, and other inadequate and unhealthy living conditions; AND

6. WHEREAS: Livestock are unable to move and walk around freely, hence resulting in malnourished animals and unhealthy product; THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED

1. RESOLVED: The Associated Students strongly supports Proposition 12: Expand Live Space for Livestock to allow an expansion of living space for Livestock producing meat and eggs; AND LET IT BE FURTHER

2. RESOLVED: AS encourages all faculty, students, staff, and administration to support Proposition 12 and vote yes; AND LET IT BE FURTHER

3. RESOLVED: That copies of this resolution be distributed widely, including but not limited to the following: • Governor Jerry Brown • Councilman Mitch Englander • Mayor Eric Garcetti • Dianne Harrison, CSUN President • CSUN Today • The Daily Sundial
