MISSION STATEMENT

For students, by students – Associated Students at California State University, Northridge serves as the collective voice of the student body in advocating for student needs through shared governance, fostering an inclusive campus community, and providing innovative social, recreational, educational, and cultural programs and services that empower, engage, and create a sense of belonging for all students.


Authority: This Code receives its authority under Article V, Section 4 of the Associated Students Constitution.


Purpose: The purpose of this Code is to outline and define the duties and responsibilities of the Vice President.


STANDARDS OF IMPLEMENTATION: This Code shall be effective when approved by a majority of the total voting membership of the.Associated Students Senate.


AMENDMENTS: This Code shall be amended when approved by a majority of the total voting membership of the Associated Students Senate.


APPOINTMENT, TENURE AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • The President shall be elected, from the same ticket as their Vice President, in compliance with the Code on Elections and the A.S. Constitution.
  • The term of office for the President shall be from the first day following the end of the Spring semester up to, and including, the last day of the Spring semester. Should the office be vacated during the term, the Vice President shall become President and in collaboration with the Senate they shall follow the A.S. Constitution on selecting a new Vice President.
  • The President may be removed only by procedures as outlined in ARTICLE XI – RECALL AND INITIATIVE of the A.S. Constitution.


DUTIES

Senate

  • The President shall be the chair of the Senate meetings, which are considered the Board of Directors of Associated Students.
  • The President is recommended to oversee the Senate alongside the Vice President
  • Authority to reassign and approve Legislative Referrals to different standing committees by Council of Chairs majority vote.


Cabinet

  • The President shall oversee and supervise the Cabinet.
  • The President shall have the authority to delegate their supervision duties to the Vice President or Chief of Staff.
  • The President shall ensure that weekly Cabinet meetings are organized.
  • The President shall conduct check-ins with Cabinet members.
  • The President shall provide further training and guidance for the Chairs that conduct Committee meetings.


Associated Students as a Whole

  • The President shall lead and coordinate programming for promotion of student academic success, education on resources, campus belongingness, and spirited culture; and may delegate as deemed fit.
  • The President shall be a member of the A.S. Personnel Board.
  • The President shall chair the Instructionally Related Activities board (IRA).
  • The President shall chair the Personnel Board.
  • The President shall lead any special projects for the benefit of A.S. or CSUN.
  • The President shall serve on The Annual End of the Year Celebration Awards Group.


Campus

  • The President shall maintain a good relationship with the student body and aim to improve this relationship throughout their term.
  • The President shall, in collaboration with the A.S. Vice President, perform monthly check-ins with the University President and Vice President of Student Affairs to advocate for student needs and acquire updates on CSUN's administration.
  • The President shall serve on the following university committees
  • Campus Fee Advisory Committee
  • CSUN Foundation Board
  • The University Corporation Board of Directors
  • Any other University committees can be served based on availability.


External

  • The President shall represent CSUN at California State Student Association (CSSA) monthly plenaries and special meetings as needed on the Board of Directors.

Internal Organization

  • The President along with the Vice President shall perform monthly check-ins with the Executive Director of Associated Students to communicate current Leadership effort, collaboration opportunities, and address any concerns they may have.
  • The President along with the Vice President shall perform monthly check-ins with the program managers at the Assistant Director of Programs and Communication’s discretion to assess their needs, communicate current Leadership effort, collaboration opportunities, and address any concerns they may have.

  • Associated Students, Inc

PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY: All meetings called by the President shall be conducted according to parliamentary law as set forth in Robert’s Rules or Order, Newly Revised.


ENABLING CAUSE: This Code shall supersede all Codes written before December 8, 2025
