Children's Center

The AS Children’s Center is a high quality early childhood development program that provides a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment. The program promotes each child’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Daily activities foster each child’s development to their fullest potential.

ACCREDITION

The center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, which is a landmark of high quality child development programs.

GRANT & FUNDRAISING
  • Contracts with the California Department of Education/Early Education and Support Division for State Funded Preschool Program as well as the California Deparment of Social Services for General Child Care and Development.
  • Grant with the U.S. Department of Food and Nutrition Service’s for Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Grant with the U.S. Department of Education’s Child Care Access Means Parents in School Program (CCAMPIS).
ACHIEVEMENTS

Collaborated with Campus partners to provide learning engagement for children with the Geology Department for Earth Day.

COVID Related Programming
  • Conducted virtual tours to provide families with a way to view classrooms.
  • Scheduled one-on-one classrooms visits for families prior to attendance.
  • Scheduled one-on-one zoom meetings with families to connect and share about their child’s development.
  • Provided PPE equipment for everyone at the center.

Outdoor Adventures

Since 2008, CSUN Outdoor Adventures (OA) has been providing unique recreational opportunities to the CSUN community. Through our Wilderness Outings, RIDGE Rockwall, rental center, team building program, workshops and clinics, Outdoor Leadership Program, and most recently Camp Matador, we provide awe-inspiring, transformative experiences to more than 6,000 students each year.

Trip Leaders

All of our Wilderness Outing Instructors have over 10 days of back country training and an additional focus on technical activities to provide you with the safest, most competent wilderness experience possible. All our staff are an equal mix of trained medical practitioners, cooks, drivers, outdoor educators, and fun facilitators culminating in pretty incredible outdoor professionals.

Wilderness Welcome offers transfer students a warm entrance into the CSUN community and provides the tools to successfully navigate the transition into Matador life. ADVENTURE TRIPS

CSUN Outdoor Adventures, located in the Student Recreation Center, gives you the opportunity to explore, learn and enjoy outdoor opportunities. Students participating in outings will learn how to recreate safely in the great outdoors and develop an understanding of natural surroundings. Outdoor Adventures hopes this will lead each student to appreciate the Earth’s natural beauty and all it has to offer.

LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS

The Outdoor Leadership Program (OLP) is designed to provide the knowledge and necessary skills for individuals who are interested in working as trip instructors or guides with the CSUN Outdoor Adventures Program.

The goal of the OLP is to develop knowledgeable, highly skilled and trained wilderness guides to work as instructors and guides with the Outdoor Adventures Program. Our overall mission is to provide the CSUN community an avenue to foster an appreciation for the outdoors, while emphasizing safety, environmental awareness, minimum impact, personal exploration, group bonding, experiential education, positive interaction, and good times.

RENTAL CENTER

CSUN Outdoor Adventures has a large selection of outdoor equipment available for current CSUN students to rent at a low cost for a day, a weekend, or a week. Located at the Northwest entrance of the SRC, the Rental Center serves as your comprehensive outdoor resource. Whether it's a family camping trip, church retreat, music festival, or mountaineering expedition, we provide top of the line outdoor equipment rentals for a number of general and technical activities.

BIKE SHOP

As a bicycle shop , we offer CSUN students, faculty, and staff affordable prices on bicycle repairs, maintenance, and parts. If you would like to learn how to repair or maintain your bike, no labor fee will be added to your total, so you'll just pay for the price of the part (if applicable).

If you don't have the time or don't want to get your hands dirty, no problem!

Productions

AS Productions provides concerts, cultural events, lectures and special events for the CSUN campus, including "Big Show." AS Productions keeps the Matador spirit alive by producing CSUN spirit events and collaborating on programming with campus clubs, academic departments and the University Student Union.

  • The COVID inspired and centered downhill presented by Aly & AJ and CORE

  • Creation of Colorful Conversations; a platform for students to share and relate over real, lived experiences
  • Hosting of a fully virtually Sol Fest, with four musical acts, a musical duo that also did a cooking segment, and an influencer series.
  • A virtual COVID centered discussion with stars Aly & AJ with an acoustic musical performance
  • A virtual Earth Month & Earth Fair
  • Creation of Whine & Dine; a platform for students to provide authentic, unfiltered feedback about their thoughts on CSUN, the pandemic, and how the university/professors have handled the transition. Hosted by Producer, Naurice Minor, and comedian Trevor Wallace
  • Virtual Big Lecture with Bill Nye the Science Guy with a fully virtual set for the first time ever!
  • Big Show coming back to the campus for the first time since 2019, with headliner BLXST
  • Big Lecture returning to the campus for the first time since 2019 with digital star, Cody Ko! the return of CSUN’s hottest event; Summer Movie Fest!

Sport Clubs

The Sport Clubs program provides CSUN students an opportunity to participate in regionally and nationally competitive sports and recreational activities. The program is designed to allow each CSUN student a chance to participate in a sport club individually or as a member of a team.

Each club is formed, developed, governed and administered by student members.

Student leadership, interest and participation are essential elements of a successful sport club.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
  • Men’s Soccer won the UCSD Spring Invitational tournament in May 2022.
  • Both the Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Clubs attended the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation National Championships in Phoenix, AZ.
  • Chris Santiago and Jesus Venegas-Vazquez from the Boxing Club represented CSUN at the USIBA National Championships in Atlanta, Georgia. Both won their beginner weight class titles.
  • Takato Tsuchiya qualified for the NAtional Collegiate Table Tennis Association Men’s Single National Championship in Round Rock, Texas, finishing in the round of 32.
  • Sport CLubs hosted 302 practices and events in the COVID shortened Fall Semester. The department had 4,351 unique participations, totaling 9,497 participation hours. Spring 2022 had 381 practices and events, with 4,826 unique participations, totaling 12,378 participation hours.
  • The Athletic Training Stass completed 820 individual appointments in the ‘21-’22 school year, totaling 441 hours of treatments, evaluations, and training.

Sustainability

The program has been recently renamed to AS Sustainability and continues to support the campus community by collecting paper, cardboard, pallets, inkjet and laser toner cartridges, cell phones, tin cans and beverage containers. In addition to collection services at over 200 locations on campus, the program supports and participates in various sustainability projects such as the award winning Sustainable Office Program, Green Events Consulting, and throwing educational events.

  • Resuse Culture Fashion Expo - collaborative with CSUN Public Art Class, Apparel Design, Merchandize Department, and eco-friendly vendors.

COVID Related Programming
  • Student Leadership was able to host the first Diversity and Inclusion Fair. The Diversity and Inclusion Fair was as an opportunity for campus clubs, organizations, and departments that focus on diversity and inclusion could highlight their cultures, goals, and achievements.
  • Launched the Philanthropy Fund, which allows CSUN recognized and AS chartered student organizations/ clubs to be allocated up to $2,000 for their philanthropic events.
  • Offered support to commuter students by distributing 2,000 gas cards.
  • Hosted Campus Conversation series Dr. Watkins, Provost Walker, Ranjit Philip, Colin Donahue, and President Beck
  • Senators were able to host various college town hall meetings throughout the year. These town hall meetings were an opportunity for students to connect with their college Dean and AS Senators and resulted in many important and meaningful conversations.

Ticket Office

The AS Ticket Office offers ticketing services for nearly all campus events, from athletics and comedy to theater, music and more. Discounted tickets to local movie theaters and theme parks are also available.

The Ticket Office was able to distribute FREE Gas Cards to students as gas prices spiked, giving them some relief as we approached the end of the spring semester.

Associated Students (AS) Accounting and Financial Services provides many amenities to all CSUN students, especially when it comes to clubs and organizations. AS Accounting and Financial Services works with CSUN-recognized clubs and organizations by handling agency (club) accounts and AS-budgeted accounts when an allocation has been approved by the senate.
